Here’s a picture of better times. A time where the Phillies were celebrating being World Champions. A time where Cole Hamels was regarded by some as the best pitcher in the league. A time where Brett Myers and Cole Hamels where the best of friends.
Well in this day in time, the Phillies are a game away from no longer being World Champions. Cole Hamels is having a dreadful playoffs. And Brett Myers is picking fights with Hamels. After a win, might I add.
It all stems from an interview Hamels did recently where he stated that he can’t wait for this season to end. That statement left many of the Phillies scratching their heads, and Myers ready for a little confrontation.
As Myers walked past Hamels near Hamels’ locker he said, mocking, “What are you doing here? I thought you quit.”
Hamels, the witness said, responded with an expletive.
Before the situation escalated, Myers was guided away by a team official.
And just for the sake of clarity, let me repeat that this all happened after a win. Just think what would’ve happened if they had lost last night. Or there is a Game 7 and Hamels gets the ball and they lose. Myers may break out the brass knuckles.
