Let’s Not Crown The Hawks Just Yet

Okay, the Atlanta Hawks have a pretty good team. They’ve gotten off to their fastest start since the 1997-98 season at 10-2, and currently have the best record in the NBA. But are they for real?

I don’t know and neither does anyone else. This same team started 6-0 last year and ended up getting swept in the second round by a good, not great, Cleveland Cavaliers team.

The problem with the Hawks isn’t the talent level of the players, but rather the inability to be consistent. Their best player, Joe Johnson is too unselfish while others (Josh Smith, Jamal Crawford&Marvin Williams) play for individual stats which, at times, interrupts the chemistry of the team.

Besides, this team earned its first winning season in 10 years last season. So their claim to supremacy is on hold, at least for now. Dominique Wilkins, Mookie Blaylock and Kevin Willis aren’t suiting up ever again, so making the playoffs isn’t even a guarantee.
