College Football Week Nine: What We Learned

Iowa is not a top 5 team. After watching Indiana choke away the upset Saturday, Iowa showed me that they are not a top 5 team. They were getting outplayed for three quarters, but then some magical Halloween stuff allowed Iowa to get back in the game and win it. I’m looking forward to see what they do when they visit Ohio State.

It’s going to be a busy offseason in Athens. After coming out in black helmets and black pants, Georgia got knocked around by a Florida team that is headed for another national berth. The outcome of the game is not shocking, the bulldogs just look terrible on offense and defense. I know the fans in Athens are getting restless and to top it off, Georgia Tech is #10 in the BCS. Mark Richt better do something or he will be gone.

South Carolina is one QB away from being contenders. After watching Tennessee manhandle the Gamecocks, it doesn’t take a genius to see that Stephen Garcia is just an average QB. South Carolina has a good defense and they have the skill players, but until they get an above average QB, they will continue to lose games like these.

USC coaches have gotten lazy. I’m not taking anything away from Oregon’s big win (I wanted them to put up 50), but USC is not the same anymore. Yes, they still bring in the same talent but their coaching is lazy compared to other years. This was the first time in a long time that I have seen Pete Carroll get mad at how his team was playing. It was great hearing the media trying to make up excuses, but it doesn’t matter because they won’t be in a BCS bowl game this year.
