Your NFL Preseason Power Rankings: 8-1

Keezy W. will be handling this season’s NFL power rankings here at No Guts. For some reason he’s a Denver Broncos fan so any jokes about the Broncos or complaints about these rankings should be done in the comments.

8. Minnesota Vikings

A great running game, a solid offensive line, and a solid defense were ingredients to the formula used the last time Brett Farve led a team to the NFC Championship game. This team may or may not win him that 2nd Super Bowl ring he has been chasing since 1997, but he will definitely have a chance.

7. Atlanta Falcons

Matt Ryan, after a great rookie season, is looking to avoid the sophomore jinx. He is surrounded by weapons on his side of the ball, and with the addition of the greatest tight end ever (sorry Mr. Sharpe), this offense looks to soar in 09.

6. Tennessee Titans

If Kerry Collins can hold it together long enough for Vince Young to get back into the lineup (and hopefully return to his 2007 form) and Chris Johnson doesn’t fall victim to the sophomore jinx, then the Titans look to make another strong run.

5. New York Giants

A top-notch defense brings back its best player that missed the entire year in Osi Umenyiora. A big-rig 18 wheel truck once again lines up in the backfield in Brandon Jacobs. And the still young and improving Eli Manning is looking to improve on a year ago. I see no reason why the Giants won’t make noise again in the NFC. Now, Eli just has to find a receiver to throw the ball to.

4. Arizona Cardinals

Unlike most so-called “NFL experts”, I don’t believe what the Cardinals did last year was a fluke. Kurt Warner is back along with all three 1000 yard receivers from a year ago. Add promising rookie running back Chris “Beanie” Wells and the offense should have no problem returning to top form. Unless either Warner starts playing more like Kurt Warner of 2005, or he goes down with an injury and Matt Leinart has to take over. If that happens, God forbid, then you can drop them back to the middle of the pack.

3. Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles look to bounce back from yet another LOSS in the NFC championship game that put them at a lowly 1-4 for the decade. They hope to have finally found a running back that can stop their goal line struggles in rookie, LeSean McCoy. The aging Donovan McNabb has yet another young wideout to use in Jeremy Maclin. That’s if he doesn’t turn out to be a bust. Mike Vick could be a key contributor if he really hasn’t lost a step. Also, with the passing away of longtime defensive coordinator, Jim Johnson I think that defense will play with extra motivation even with the loss of their leader Brian Dawkins.

2. New England Patriots

If Tom Brady’s knee is as healthy as everyone around the Pats organization wants us to believe, I see no reason why the record setting offense from two years ago can’t return to top form. The defense also looks to improve from last year. And with the release of the horrible Ellis Hobbs, they can’t go anywhere but up.

1. Pittsburgh Steelers

Hey they’re the champs and these are preseason rankings. Who else did you think was going to fill the number 1 spot?
