No more Santana; Mets’ ace out for season

As if the New York Mets season hasn’t been bad enough, they are once again firmly in shadow of the Yankees, 4th in the NL East and now they have lost their ace for the remainder of the season.

The $137.5M man, Johan Santana, will have season ending surgery to have bone chips removed from his left elbow. According to manager Jerry Manuel, Santana has been pitching with pain since the All-Star break, but now the level of pain has intensified.

In 25 starts, Santana has a 13-9 record with a 3.13 ERA and recorded a loss in his last start on Thursday against the Braves.

Where do the Mets go from here? Well, for the remainder of the season we know their fight is not to contend for the wildcard, but not to fall below the Nationals in the standings.
