Venus Williams entered the French Open as the 3rd ranked player in the world, but for the third straight year she has fallen in the third round. This year she was blasted by Hungary’s Agnes Szavay 6-0, 6-4.
After being pushed to 3 sets in each of the first two rounds, Williams finally succumbed to the opposition. The 31st ranked Szavay controlled the match from its inception to the final point was played, surprisingly defeating the seven-time Grand Slam champ with ease.
Williams opportunities to win at the French Open are rapidly fading; she will be 29 in June and hasn’t reached the finals since 2002. Along with the Australian Open, the tournament at Roland Garros has been her nemesis.
