Another year of a SEC team that made the tournament by winning the SEC tournament, another early exit. This one was never really in doubt and the Bulldogs were outmatched from the start.

East Region

AJ Abrams went bananas with 8 three pointers and the Horns never looked back.

#3 Villanova 80
#14 American 67

Villanova was down as many as 14 before going on a 19-2 run to rally past a very feisty American squad.

#2 Duke 86
#15 Binghamton 62

The Blue Devils took care of business against an over matched Binghamtom squad. Duke was in control from start to finish and they move on to the 2nd round.

#6 UCLA 65
#11 VCU 64

In one of the best games of the day, VCU gave UCLA all that they wanted before just falling short, 65-64

South Region

#10 Michigan 62
#7 Clemson 59

Clemson’s season came to a fitting end as in typical Clemson fashion, they didn’t come to play until late in the 2nd half. Michigan and Manny Harris certainly came to play as he added 21 points to the victory.

#4 Gonzaga 77
#13 Akron 64

The Zags started out slow but they eventually wore down the Zips. Josh Heytvelt was the catalyst for the Zags with 22 points.

#12 Western Kentucky 76
#5 Illinois 72

This games should have been over early as the Hilltoppers jumped on the Illini from the start. Instead, they were forced to hold on for a 76-72 victory.

#2 Oklahoma 82
#15 Morgan State 54

The Sooners got back on the right track by taking care of an over matched Morgan State squad. The Bears had no answer for Blake Griffin as he dropped 28 on them.
