#15Cal St. Northridge-70
The Matadors gave the Tigers a stiff test, but Memphis’ strength on the inside and a 35pt. performance by Roburt Sallie proved to be too much, Sallie’s previous career high was 13 points.
Texas A&M played tenacious defense holding the Cougars to under 40% from the field while the Aggies shot nearly 60%. Along with winning the rebound battle the Aggies had 20 assist on 30 made field goals.
The Tigers held off the Bulldogs in classic 8 vs. 9 battle. Led by guard Marcus Thornton who put up 30 points, the Tigers forced 15 turnovers and blocked 8 shots. This was the Tigers first tournament win since their 2006 Final Four run. Next up for the Tigers is North Carolina assuming they beat the 16 seeded Radford.
