Can you imagine being fired over the All-Star weekend that’s hosted in your city? Well. Terry Porter can. After leading the Phoenix Suns to 28-23 start(9th in the West), GM Steve Kerr decided it was time for a change.
As a head coach, Porter has had a rough ride, he was fired by Milwaukee in 2005 after seasons and only made through 51 games with Suns. Despite his record, Porter didn’t have the support of his players. During an interview on Sporstcenter, Suns forward Amare Stoudemire, a player that’s a little too excited about being traded, stated ” it’s time to move on…” Talk about being thrown under the bus. Porter was replaced by assistant coach Alvin Gentry.
Terry Porter is the 8th head coach to be fired this season in the NBA. GM’s and owners are attempting to save face, they’re using the coaches as scapegoats instead of developing competitive teams. Coaches don’t score points, grab rebounds or dish out assists, so why are they the first to go? Who knows, but next year I believe the GM’s of the league will be on the chopping blocks. After all they bring the players that fail to perform year after year.
