On Monday morning around 6 a.m. in Miami, former NBA forward Antoine Walker was arrested on suspicion of DUI. In typical arrested athlete fashion, Walker refused to take the breath test, a gesture that has become the universal admission of guilt.
Walker was recently released in by the Memphis Grizzlies after a contract buyout. Monday’s arrest was not the first time the 3-time All-Star has been in the news for infamous reasons.
In 2000 he was robbed and carjacked at gunpoint and in 2007 he and Nazr Mohammed were robbed in Chicago. This time he was the culprit.
His career took a downward spiral during the 2007 season; Walker was suspended by Pat Riley for poor conditioning just a year after helping the Heat win a NBA championship.
At age 32, Walker is out of the league and this incident may hurt his chances of getting back. Those who read this site regularly know that I hand out a weekly NBA award named in honor of Antoine Walker.
Though ironic, this strange turn of events has led me to award Antoine Walker the “Can’t Get no Lower Award” of the week. Yes, he’s won his own award, but honestly this is as low as it gets.
