Continuing with Yankee tradition, the franchise signs yet another coveted free agent. Yankee’s GM Brian Cashman lured the 28 year-old Mark Teixeira away from other bidders with a massive 8-year $180 million contract.
The New York Yankees have spent a mind-numbing $423 million so far this off season, along with Teixeira the team has added P C.C. Sabathia (7-YR,$161million) and P A.J. Burnett(5-YR,$82million) in hopes of returning prominence in the AL East.
With these additions the Yankees have the 4 most lucrative contracts in the league. With A-Rod at $275million and Jeter at $189 million the storied franchise don’t seem to be at all affected by the economic downturn. For their sakes, lets hope big spending transforms into big winning this time around.
