By now, I’m sure you’ve heard that Tiki Barber is no longer apart of the “Football Night In America” studio team and now is essentially a “beat reporter” for the New York Giants. Well according to The New York Daily News, Tiki isn’t having much luck with his new gig either. Barber apparently requested a pregame interview with Tom Couglin before the Giants’ game against Carolina. Couglin simply said, “No”. A rather short response by Couglin but it was a mouth full.
Life after retirement hasn’t gone exactly as planned for Tiki. After basically using his “farewell tour” with the Giants during the 2006-2007 season as a means of landing a broadcasting gig, the Giants won the Super Bowl without him the very next season. Essentially proving that Tiki, though productive, was nothing more than a distraction. And now that he depends on the very men that he demeaned to keep his broadcast career afloat, they’re turning their backs on him, and rightfully so. I have to assume it would be challenging to be a “beat reporter” for a team that won’t talk to you. But I’m sure Tiki is used to that. They probably didn’t talk to him while he was playing. And I can’t say that I blame them.
