The second weekend of bowl match ups are a bit more intriguing than last week only because of the names that will be playing. The slate is full of programs looking to build momentum for next year and hopefully rise to prominence. But enough of the intro, let’s get to the picks!
Emerald Bowl: Miami (7-5) vs Cal (8-4)
Cal has won it’s last two and Miami has lost it’s last two. Cal has one of the best backs in the nation in Jahvid Best and if Miami wants to win, they need to find a way to contain him. Odds are they won’t and they will struggle moving the ball with their anemic offense. But look on the bright side Miami fans, Da U at least made a bowl this year.
Prediction: Miami 17 - Cal 30
Champs Sports Bowl: Wisconsin (7-5) vs Florida State (8-4)
This one is gonna be an ugly one way or another. Either Wisconsin will pound the Noles into submission with their bruising ground attack or the Nole’s speed will run the Badgers off the field. I’ll go with the latter because I desperately want to be a Nole homer again.
Prediction: Wisconsin 17 – FSU 34
Meineke Car Care Bowl: West Virgina (8-4) vs North Carolina (8-4)
This one is easily the best game of the weekend and just our luck, it’s the first one of the weekend as well. Both squad’s limp into Stillwater after dropping late season games which ultimately cost them conference championships. The Mountaineer seniors are looking to finish their career 4-0 in bowl games and the young Tarheels are looking to catapult their program to prominence. Tough call, but I have to go with the Mountaineer seniors in a close one.
Prediction: West Virginia 24 – North Carolina 21
Independence Bowl: Northern Illinois (6-6) vs Louisiana Tech (7-5)
In essentially a home game for Northern Illinois, Louisiana Tech will have to battle the Huskies’ fans as well as their potent rushing attack. La Tech’s rushing attack is also stellar but their inefficiencies at quarterback will be their downfall.
Prediction: Northern Illinois 20 – Lousiana Tech 13
