Six Months In, It’s Time To Thank The Blogosphere

0 Flares 0 Flares ×

During my daily ritual of browsing Ballhype for good content to read, one particular story jumped out at me. It was written by MoonDog and it was entitled, Earning Your Way In The Sports Blogosphere. Being a regular reader of his blog, I knew that this article would be thought provoking to say the least. And I must say, he didn’t disappoint. I urge anyone who is just getting in the blogging game to read this post because it tells it like it is!

Now on to the real reason for this post. While reading MoonDog’s post a certain line stuck out to me.

Without those friends and the support of fellow site owners, many sports blogs get lost in the shuffle.

In order to get that support, you’ve got to write something worth linking to. In addition, you’ve got return those favors and publicly note the support of those that have helped you.

That line hit home because in the 6 months of No Guts, No Glory, we’ve yet to publicly acknowledge those that have helped us, directly and even indirectly. So, on the last day of 2008, we want to acknowledge those that have helped us, those that we’ve learned from, and those that inspire us to be greater in 2009.

The staff at BallHype – I haven’t personally dealt with anyone on the staff, but I want to say thank you for providing a medium for sports bloggers to get their content out there.

Diana Iakoubava and the staff at Yardbarker – The limited interaction I’ve had with you guys has been pleasant to say the least. Thank you for also providing a medium for sports bloggers as well as a means of being profitable.

Joe from SportBlogNet – Thanks for the opportunities that you worked so diligently to attain for No Guts. We really do appreciate it.

The staff over at Sports2Debate – Our relationship has been a brief one but a rather productive one. Thanks for your help and keep up the good work. You have great idea. So great, I wish I had thought of it.

Awful Announcing – I’m sure you don’t remember but back in September I sent you an email asking to exchange links. We barely had any content and you agreed because of a picture of ShoNuff from the Last Dragon that we had as our header image. We had nothing to offer you but you still said yes. So thanks!

Mike Hayes from Steady Burn – You changed my whole attitude about blogging without even knowing it. After my success with Awful Announcing, I sent you an email asking to exchange links. Now, I’m not sure if you got it or not but you never responded. From that point on, I’ve yet to email a soul about exchanging links. You not responding to my email (whether it was on purpose or not) showed me that I needed to respect the work others have put in and start to put in my own work. There are no handouts! Thanks Mike!

Docksquad from Docksquad Sports – In the first couple of months, it was rough and you were one of the first to drop by to comment and hype our stuff on Ballhype. Thanks man, we appreciate it. Let’s just hope Chicago sports fare better in 09.

Zoner from Zoner Sports – You also was one of the first to drop by to comment and do a lil hyping for us. So thanks man! You’re blog is one I frequent daily so I see the good stuff you’re doing. It’s funny how I gravitated to you and Docksquad’s sites. I guess Chicago sports homers have to stick together. (Which is funny, since I’m from Florida!) But keep up the good work!

Kellex from Blaze of Love and The Sports Dollar – Back when I was completely clueless I turned to your expertise. The Sports Dollar gave us the foundation for what we have today and the things to come in the future. You also taught me some valuable lessons about blogger etiquette (Even though I’m still a little guilty of this, but I’m getting better) and even linked a couple of our posts, so thanks man. Can’t wait to see what you do with Blaze of Glory in 2009.

Ethanator from NESW Sports, SEC Football Blogger, and Sports Blog Bucks – You’ve linked a couple of our posts but I want to thank you for something else. You’re willingness to think outside the box and be different is a real inspiration. It really makes us think about what we can do to distinguish ourselves from others. So thanks, for being different. Which can be a hard thing to do sometimes. You’re proving it can work.

NFL Juice – You were the first to link one of our posts. And you know what they say, you never forget your first. Thanks!

MoonDog from MoonDog Sports – I’m not sure you know how much you’ve really helped No Guts. There was a stretch in November where you really got people to notice us in a big way. It seemed like everyday you linked one of posts. I remember wondering, “Does he feel sorry for us”? You even emailed wanting to exchange links. So the post you wrote earlier today isn’t just words, it’s the truth! I emailed you to express my thanks before Christmas, but it’s time to publicly thank you. So thanks man. We really do appreciate it.

Jimmy and the Hot Clicks staff – On Dec. 3, you gave us 15,000+ visitors. We’re addicted and we want more. Thanks for noticing our post.

Carolyn from And One – Thanks for the links, comments and hypes. When we first started, I used to read the nice things that everyone had to say about you and none of them were exaggerations.

The Docs from The Hoop Doctors – I really respect what you guys have done. The site looks great and you guys really go hard. I appreciate the help that you have given us.

Jason from The Big Lead – The way you do business, you would hardly think that you are a pro-blogger. You’ve helped us out a couple of times and I want to say thank you for that.

Harvey Bars from Tirico Suave – I’m watching you from afar and I will one day take you down in a Photoshop contest. But seriously, you’re creativity is unparalleled and truly inspiring. Thanks for the inspiration.

Cuzzy from Cuzoogle – I remember seeing Kellex always writing about his buddy Cuzzy and his Raptors blog. I remember thinking, “Who wants to read a Raptors blog”? (Sorry Raptors fans) I finally made my way over and boy was I surprised. It was not only a Raptors blog, but anything else he likes. All the while, never taking away from the focus, the Raptors. It takes a blog like Cuzoogle to prove that if you’re true to yourself and what you like, everything else will take care of itself. So thanks Kellex for making sure people check out Cuzoogle and thanks Cuzzy for showing us something different. And you too will be defeated in a Photoshop contest.

Isaac from The World of Isaac – Some people just have a way with words. And you sir are one of those people. The posts are short and sweet, but they always scream “link me”. Whenever I have writer’s block, I go over to WOI for some lessons. Keep up the good work in 2009. I’ll be reading.

Hugging Harold Reynolds – The things that come to your mind are amazing. It seems you continuously come up with ideas that no one else does. You have the same headlines to work with that the rest of us have, yet you find a way to go beyond the headline. One day I will master this art. And until then, I’ll just continue to watch and read how it’s done.

So there you have it. Just a few that have made an impact on No Guts in our first six months. There are many others that have helped us on the way that I didn’t list. (You know who you are) To you I say thank you as well. We’re exciting to see where 2009 takes all of you and we hope that everyone has a happy and prosperous 2009!

Just the other day, I was at my desk when a distinct, sudden chill ran up my spine to which I gasped and immediately thought “I’m being watched from afar!”. At the time I figured I was just being paranoid so I’m glad to have been provided that closure. Thank you.

  6. Sports2Debate says:

Thanks so much for the kind words! First of all, I want to thank No Guts, No Glory for helping me recognize that bloggers are a family. And I am going to call this (for lack of the correct term) “blog love”. I will definitely be doing a thank you post like this over at Sports2Debate!

  7. Sing with me – We Are Fam-i-ly . . . sports bloggers are the best kind of family. We actually like each other. :)

  8. Mike Hayes says:

This has got to be the only time I’ve been thanked because of my rude and inconsiderate behavior. I’m blushing.

You just earned that link in a big way.
