Saturday marks the beginning of the bowl season and our journey to Blog Bowl supremacy. The slate of games for Saturday isn’t very enticing, but it’s still college football so we won’t complain. Now on to the picks!
Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl: BYU (10-2) vs Arizona (7-5)
In one of the first bowl games of the season, BYU will face Arizona. Arizona finished 5th in the overrated Pac-10 this season and really aren’t that good. BYU QB, Max Hall had a monster year completing 69.6% of his passes while throwing 34 TD’s and only 13 ints. Nevertheless, I still believe that the best part of the game will be the National Anthem performed by the “Knight Rider” himself, David Hasselhoff. Gotta love Vegas.
Prediction: BYU 31 – Arizona 21
Eaglebank Bowl: Wake Forest (7-5) vs Navy (8-4)
The Demon Deacons will be looking for revenge in this rematch against the Midshipmen of Navy; a team they lost to 24-17 in September. Wake Forest coach Jim Grobe has led the team to their third straight bowl game, which is a big deal for Wake Forest. I expect the Demon Deacons to emerge victorious, besides you can’t lose to Navy twice in one year.
Prediction: Wake Forest 27 – Navy 21
magicJack St. Petersburg Bowl: South Florida(7-5) vs Memphis(6-6)
Compared to last season, South Florida has had a down year finishing 6th in the Big East. Memphis head coach Tommy West is excited to be playing in a bowl game against a BCS school, but his mediocre team will not fair well.
Prediction: South Florida 34 – Memphis 17
New Mexico Bowl: Colorado State (6-6) vs Fresno State (7-5)
This has been a disappointing season for Fresno State, to say the least. They were a team that was looking to make major noise this year, but ended up losing their last 3 out of 5, which was capped off with an embarrassing 61-10 loss to Boise State. Luckily, they get to end their season against a mediocre Colorada State team.
Prediction: Fresno State 41 – Colorado State 30
First set of bowl picks are in the books, so now let’s hear what you have to say.
