GUTS Rankings – Week Four

Ah yes, another college football weekend is in the books and the BCS is in shambles. Unlike the BCS, this week’s GUTS Rankings has a new #1 team. Anyone care to take a guess who it is?

1) Texas Tech
The Red Raiders are on a roll. I can’t believe that I’m saying this but Texas Tech could be the most complete team in college football. The Red Raiders have the week off and then they travel to Norman, Oklahoma to take on the Sooners.

2) Alabama
The Crimson Tide squeaked by the LSU Tigers in overtime, 27-21. The same LSU tigers that got destroyed by both Georgia and Florida. It seems as if Nick Saban’s squad is limping to the finish line and that may not bode well for their meeting with Florida for the SEC championship.

3) Texas
After a slow start, the Longhorns took care of Baylor, 45-21. The Longhorns have moved back in striking distance but with no marquee game left on the schedule, they’re going to need the top two teams to lose to get to the National Championship game.

4) Florida
The Gators continued to impress with a 42-14 victory over the Vanderbilt Commodores. The Gators have clinched a date with Alabama in the SEC championship game and if they continue to win, they could win their way to the National Championship game.

5) Oklahoma
The Sooners put up 60+ points for the second week in a row as they defeated Texas A&M 66-28. The Sooners have two games remaining both of which can help their cause. They take on Texas Tech in two weeks and end the season against Oklahoma State.

6) USC
USC got a semi-quality over Cal, 17-3. The Trojans have just not been as dominating as we’ve grown accustomed to over the years and they’re title hopes are being affected by it. The Trojans now travel to face the Stanford Cardinals in a payback game.

7) Penn State
The dream of an undefeated season and a National Championship died on a last second field goal by the Iowa Hawkeyes Saturday night. The Nittany Lions looked very tight and never took control of the game. They are going to have to regroup because they can still salvage the season by winning the Big Ten title.

8) Utah

The Utes took care of a good TCU team last Thursday, 13-10. The Utes seem to be the team that will crash the BCS party this year, but they can’t afford to slip up against San Diego State or a more than capable BYU team.

9) Boise State

The Broncos crushed Utah State, 49-0. The Broncos will probably end up undefeated but they will need Utah to stumble for them to return to a BCS bowl.

10) Ohio State
Low and behold, the Buckeyes are back in the top 10. Surprisingly, the Buckeyes can still win the Big Ten title, but not much else.
11) Oklahoma State
12) Missouri
13) Georgia
14) Ball State
15) TCU
16) BYU
17) North Carolina
18) Michigan State
19) Florida State
20) Pitt
21) Cincinnati
22) LSU
23) Oregon State
24) South Carolina
