Come on Billy! Bleak times for Wildcat Nation

Billy Gillespie Last season, it only took Billy Gillespie two games to realize that he wasn’t at Texas A&M anymore. After losing to Gardner Webb early into his first season as the Wildcats head coach, the scrutiny immediately began.

Not unlike last year Gillespie was unable to beat another inferior program to begin the 2008-09 season. Kentucky lost to VMI in its first game of the year 111-103, simply unacceptable by Kentucky standards.

Kentucky is the winningest program in NCAA Men’s basketball history with 1,966 wins. The Wildcats finished a disappointing 18-13 last season, but were unexpectedly 12-4 in SEC. Though they made to the NCAA Tournament last year, they were ousted in the first round by Marquette 74-66.

The storied program has again began the season poorly. Now 0-2, the Wildcats will host Delaware State in Rupp Arena on Saturday. For the fans sake, I hope they win. For Gillespie, another disappointing season may be his ticket out the door.
