The reigning league MVP, Kobe Bryant, hyper-extended his right knee in a pre-season game against the Charlotte Bobcats on Tuesday night. Bryant was injured when he bumped knees with teammate Josh Powell while going for a rebound in the second quarter and did not return for the second half. Bryant was examined by Lakers trainer Gary Vitti Wednesday morning and will not need a MRI; he’s listed day-to-day. Laker fans and NBA Commissioner David Stern can relax, Kobe is going to be okay. Kobe Bryant is a ratings star and due to the amount of Laker games on their schedule for the upcoming season surely ESPN, ABC and TNT took collective sighs of relief after hearing Kobe’s injury is only minor. After witnessing the debacle of the NFL’s season with all the injuries and suspensions, namely the loss of superstar Tom Brady, lets hope the NBA’s stars stay healthy.
