GUTS Rankings – Week One

BCS logo

The initial BCS Rankings are out and of course here at No Guts, No Glory we don’t agree with them. So we’re gonna do something about it! Each week, we’ll release our GUTS Rankings. (Don’t waste time trying to figure out the what the acronym means because it means absolutely nothing.) We’re not gonna use any scientific computer calculations nor any coaches or media opinion’s, just what matter’s most, the games! So here it is, the initial GUTS Rankings!
1) Texas
Obviously the undisputed #1, the Longhorns are 7-0 and have a victory over then #1 Oklahoma. After a convincing victory over #11 Missouri this past Saturday, things don’t get any easier as they welcome #8 Oklahoma State to Austin.
2) Alabama
The Crimson Tide have two dominating victories over an overrated #9 Clemson team and a #3 Georgia team in Athens. They dispatched a pesky Ole Miss team on Saturday and this week they travel to Knoxville to take on the reeling Tennessee Volunteers.
3) Penn State
The Nittany Lions have been crushing every opponent that they have faced and the only reason they’re not #2 is the lack of a marquee victory. They get their chance to add one this Saturday when they travel to play Ohio State.
4) Oklahoma State
The Cowboys have been putting up great numbers and have victory over a #3 Missouri team. But now the true test awaits as they travel to Austin to take on the Longhorns.
5) Oklahoma
The debate about who’s the best 1-win loss team is a matter of opinion. Which team has the “best” loss isn’t. Oklahoma lost to the #1 team in the nation, so they’re the highest 1-lost team.
6) Georgia
The Dawgs have the “second best” loss, but they have struggled to turn in a dominating performance. If they ever needed dominating performances it’s now as showdowns with LSU and Florida loom large.
7) Texas Tech
The Red Raiders are this high only because of their record. They’ve won the games that they should have but the next 4 games will give them ample chances to really prove themselves.
8) Florida
The Gators look to have turned the corner, but the loss to Ole Miss puts them in this position. Their schedule could be a blessing and a curse as it sets them up to run the table, but they may not have very many quality wins besides Georgia and the SECCG opponent along the way.
9) USC
The BCS rankings are impressed by the beat down the Trojans gave Washington State. We’re not! That’s what an elite team is supposed to do to a 1-6 team. The Trojans do have a marquee victory over the then #5 Buckeyes, but not much chance of another one. The loss to Oregon State hurts when you don’t have many chances to make up for it.
10) Ohio State
The Buckeyes have bounced back after their loss to USC with wins over then #18 Wisconsin and #20 Michigan State. They have a chance to jump back in the mix as Penn State comes to town this weekend.

11) Utah
12) Boise State
13) LSU
14) TCU
15) Pitt
16) South Florida
17) Missouri
18) Tulsa
19) Ball State
20) Georgia Tech
21) BYU
22) Northwestern
23) Kansas
24) Minnesota
25) Florida State
