The Los Angeles Lakers and C Andrew Bynum agreed to a 4yr. $58 million deal with a 4th year option today. Bynum is currently in the last year of his rookie contract and will make about $2.8 million this year.
Bynum averaged 13.1 ppg, 10.2 rpg and 2.1 bpg last season before being hampered by a season ending injury in January. He’s improved each season he has been in the league and obviously team GM Mitch Kupchak had seen enough this season and gave the youngster his due.
With the big-man signed for the next 4 years Kobe Bryant will have a decision to make this off-season. Bryant has an option to opt out of his contract at the end of the 2008-09 season. We all know there will be several teams opening their checkbooks trying to lure the MVP away from the Lakers.
But as it stands, the Lakers have a formidable roster and could be a major force in the Western Conference for years to come.
